How to: Meditate

We rediscover our inner peacefulness and learn to chill out with this easy six minute meditation session.

Remember when we shared with you the post about facial yoga? Well, listen up, because we’ve got a new obsession – meditation. Not only reserved for hippies and tree huggers, meditation is touted by many models, actors, entrepreneurs and the rest of the busy world as their life savior. But what is all the fuss about?

Sure, you may have had a stressful day, but doesn’t everyone? Stress doesn’t look good on anyone, so don’t wait until you burn out – learn to relax out in just a few minutes with our newfound addiction.

Thanks to Into the Gloss, we came across this Yoga Relaxation audio guide, voiced by Rolf Sovik. You can listen to it here
It turns out, meditation doesn’t just have to be practiced in a yoga studio, on a deserted island or amongst a group of sun-saluting hippies. It can be done literally anwhere you can close your eyes.

Yoga International’s treasured meditation guide, Rolf Sovik theory on the importance of mental cleansing goes a little something like this “Imagine what your body would be like if you didn’t shower for two weeks…you need to cleanse your mind too.” Still skeptical? We think not.

Sovik explains that bringing awareness to your breath is very first point of call for relaxation. ‘Take a deep breath’ rings true as he describes how Becoming aware of your own breath is the most powerful way to calm down. With each deep breath, your exhalation releases tension, while the inhalation nourishes you. With a little practice, you can learn to soften tensions by focusing your mind on the effortless flow of your breathing.

While it may seem odd that we must learn to relax (and we don’t just mean booking a tropical holiday away!) this meditation practice can help your mind deal with stress and negative emotion better and help you rediscover your inner peacefulness. Trust us, it is there. A simple change to the focus of your attention can change your world for the better – and you may find yourself waking up before your alarm clock in the morning too!
